Linea Woos Ethereum users feature “free” layer 2 bridging

9 months ago 3 Min Read

Linea currently covers Layer 2 gas fees for Ethereum bridges, but this offer excludes USDC transfers, high GAS transactions and does not abandon Layer 1 fees.

Blockchain network Linea covers layer 2 gas fees for users filling assets from Ethereum (ETH) MainNet, aiming to make onboarding faster and simpler. In a May 7th X post, Linea said the new offers will only apply to native bridges and have some restrictions, but the team said it is part of a broader push to reduce friction for new users.

Bridges from Ethereum to Linea are free.

Use a native bridge.
Covers L2 fees.
There are no claims, there are no speculation gas.
Send it to go.https://t.co/yk69jwe9js

Linea is a Zero Knowledge Layer 2 network developed and developed by Consensys, Consensys, behind Metamask, Infura and other Ethereum tools. The network is designed to allow developers to scale low-cost, fast-traded Ethereum apps.

Gas fee waiver applies only to Ethereum to Leinea transfers using Linea’s proprietary bridge. Additionally, the Linea team has listed some things to keep in mind. It only covers Layer 2 transactions from Layer-1, does not apply to those using more than 250,000 gases, and does not include USD coin (USDC) transfers via CCTP in the circle.

This means that users still have to pay for Ethereum Mainnet Gas. This is often around $2-20, depending on the network congestion. Additionally, 250,000 gas caps range from around $20 to $45, with eligible Layer 2 fees being used on a general basis.

In early April, Linea’s product director said the team decided to wait for a more bullish crypto market before moving forward with the token launch. A month ago, then-market Christopher Kocurek told the Discord community that Consensys executives and board of directors were aiming to become a token generation event in the second quarter of 2025. Since then, Kocurek has left Linea to join an early stage startup.
