Coinbase said at least 69,461 customers had stolen personal and financial information during a number of months of data breaches disclosed last week.
The Crypto giant saw the number of affected clients filed with Maine’s Attorney General on Wednesday, as required by the state’s data breaches notice law.
Coinbase’s filing said the violation dates back to December 26, 2024 and continues until earlier this month, receiving a “reliable” ransom memo from hackers who claimed the company had stolen customer data.
In a blog post, Coinbase said the hackers deleted the data by asking for $20 million in ransom payments. The company said the hackers have covered Coinbase customer support workers for months to access customer data.
Hackers stole customer names, email and postal addresses, phone numbers, government-issued identity documents, account balances and transaction history amid fears that wealthy customers could be targeted.
