Sony has announced the release of the mainnet for Soneium Blockchain

Sony, a Japanese electronics giant, has announced the official release of its blockchain mainnet. Sonium, on January 14th. The platform aims to empower creators, such as artists, by promoting direct connections with fans.

Launched by @Sony Group Company Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), Soneium is a layer 2 blockchain that protects creators, fans and communities, enables them to connect globally and build an open internet.

The launch is based on the 2024 Testnet success. Soneium Minationprocessed over 47 million transactions and collected over 15 million wallets. Developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), Soneium is reportedly providing tools to simplify the interaction between creators and their audiences of blockchains.

Platform for artists and fans

Soneium’s mission is to enable creators to use blockchain technology to enhance engagement with their fans. Sony’s vision for the platform focuses on providing tools such as NFT-based fan engagement systems and called incubation programs. Soneium Spark.

The idea is to create a more seamless Web3 experience and remove the complexities associated with blockchain technology. This user-friendly approach is expected to be embraced by ordinary people who may not fully understand Web3’s technology but want to explore its possibilities.

This platform is designed with chain abstraction in mind. This means blockchain operations performed in the background without requiring users to interact with complex technologies.

Breaking the barriers of Web3

One of the key points Sony highlighted is creating an entertainment layer above Web3.

Sota Watanabe, Director of Sony BSL; Although Web3 is often seen as a focus on finance, he explained that the entertainment sector has the power to connect people in a unique way. Sony believes that by stacking entertainment on top of blockchain, it can bridge the gap between technology and real-world applications, making Web3 more accessible and attractive.

Over time, creators are expected to diversify their content and find new ways to interact with their audience. This includes entertainment-based applications such as games, social apps, and NFT. All of this is done on the Soneium blockchain.

Soneium Mainnet: What’s new?

Soneium Mainnet officially launched after the success of the Testnet phase, which allowed developers and creators to test the network specifications before they went live. Over 1,700 applications submitted Soneium Spark Thirty-two projects were selected to participate in the programme, incubation initiative. These projects cover a wide range of applications, including entertainment, gaming, finance, and more, ensuring a wide ecosystem for creators to explore.

For end users, Soneium offers a seamless experience, allowing you to make payments using crypto assets within your application. This opens a new pathway for creators to make money through in-app payments, whilst enhancing their connections with fans.

S.Blox and Enhanced Crypto Exchange Services

Sony also introduced it to support the economic aspects of the platform. s.bloxa redesigned version of the CryptoAsset Exchange service. S.Blox aims to simplify the process of acquiring crypto assets and using them within Web3 apps. With a new user interface and mobile app, S.Blox promises an all-in-one platform for trading crypto assets and interacting with the Soneium network.

Furthermore, through collaboration with Shell’s GhostSoneium will launch an NFT distribution campaign in February.

The Way to Begin: Creator-focused Web3

Sony’s ambitions don’t just provide creators with tools. The company also focuses on enhancing fan engagement.

With the release of a new one Fan Marketing Platformcompanies can easily issue NFTs and create unique opportunities for fan interaction. The platform features an integrated web-based wallet, allowing users to easily receive and manage NFTs without the need for separate crypto wallets. This experience is designed to attract both veteran crypto users and newcomers.

Looking forward to it, Sony plans to continue expanding its offering to creators and fans. From January to February 2025, the company will introduce several new applications and projects based on the Soneium blockchain. These include NFTs, social apps, and other tools designed to further enhance the experiences of both creators and their communities.
