Networks created by Binance handle blocks in less than a second

7 months ago 3 Min Read

The BNB Smart Chain (BSC) network is preparing for the jump with the implementation of Maxwell Hardfork, an update that promises to reduce generation times of 1.5 to 0.75 seconds.

The change, announced by BNB Chain Equipment, is attempting to implement faster transactions, a more fluid user experience, and a more robust infrastructure (DAPPS) for distributed applications. Maxwell is also committed to improving the coordination between synchronization of nodes within a BNB network and synchronization of BNB networks.

Arrived in honor of physicist James Clark Maxwell, Hardfork Maxwell, is based on three technical proposals: BEP-524, BEP-563 and BEP-564.

The first BEP-524 is the core of the update as it reduces the block interval to 0.75 seconds. Replicasing the speed of previous reductions achieved with Lorentz hard forksIt took 3-1.5 seconds.

For that part, BEP-563 improves messaging between validators and optimizes P2P communication (peer to peer)) To achieve faster and more efficient consensus.

Finally, BEP-564 introduces new types of messages in the BSC/2 protocol, such as getBlocksbyrangemsg and ravedblocksmsg. Accelerate block synchronization between nodes, Allows a more agile and reliable network.

When will Maxwell arrive at the BNB network?

Maxwell Hardfork was first deployed on the TestNet on May 26, 2025, giving nodes and developers the opportunity to prove infrastructure compatibility.

Migrating to main network (MainNet) Scheduled for June 30th, 2025if the required conditions are met, such as successful adoption by most validators.

To ensure transitions without any issues, the nodes need to update their software to the latest version before the testnet date, but developers need to audit DAPP to accommodate the new block interval.

What are the advantages of Maxwell Hardfork?

According to the BNB team responsible for this update, Maxwell’s benefits range from all network participants.

From users, trading, exchanges to mining, They become “essentially snapshots”improving experience with distributed finance applications (DEFI) and other Dapps.

Meanwhile, developers will find low latency environments This opens up new possibilities for application designyou need to adjust the logic based on time to adapt to the fastest block.

On the other hand, node validators and operators face a slight increase in computational demand. But in return, they get a more efficient and stable network.

Even the largest removable value seekers (MEVs) need to adapt to narrower time frames to submit offers.
