Lead Bitcoin hashrate races from North America, Eurasia and Latin America

10 months ago 3 Min Read

At the time of the press, the Bitcoin Network hashrate is cruised just above the 900 exhaush per second (EH/S) range, and the US stands out at 36.025% of the world’s hashrate rates, according to current statistics documented by HashrateIndex.com.

Global hashrate showdown: US lead, Russian climbing, China hangs

The US is currently the most dominant mining region, according to the second quarter 2025 heat map hosted on HashrateIndex.com. The web portal provides a Bitcoin mining heatmap showing the global distribution of hashrate concentrations.

The US is highlighted in the darkest orange, indicating that it is. The US is chasing countries such as Russia, Canada and China. Russia is driving 15.652% of Bitcoin’s global hash power to order. China is at 13.727% and Canada is at about 2.919%, the Bitcoin Mining Heat Map shows.

The US lead comes from a combination of factors including the rich energy resources of states such as Texas, a favourable regulatory framework in several jurisdictions, and robust infrastructure to host large-scale mining farms. Russia’s mining strength is primarily due to vast and remote areas where low-cost hydroelectric power and natural gas power can be utilized.

Total network hashrate via a 7-day simple moving average (SMA) over a year.

Canada has similarly benefited from hydroelectric energy, particularly in provinces such as Quebec and British Columbia, but China has maintained a prominent presence linked to secret or small businesses in areas such as Sichuan and Xinjiang, which have cheap hydroders during the rainy season.

Other countries with visible mining activities include Kazakhstan (2.484%), Paraguay (3.602%), UAE (3.727%), Oman (3.106%), and Iran (1.242%). In particular, Kazakhstan previously used surplus coal energy before mining activity surged after China’s ban and faced its own regulatory pushback. Iran also adopted Bitcoin mining as a tool to avoid sanctions and accepts it as a tool to provide subsidies to licensed businesses.

Paraguay stands out in South America and is attracting attention for its abundant, low-cost hydroelectric power generation from Itaimu. Conversely, large swaths in parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia appear in grey, indicating either negligible mining activities or unavailable data. These regions often face infrastructure challenges, high power costs, or political instability that hinders mining mining development.

HashrateIndex.com Bitcoin Mining Heatmap reinforces a clear geographical slope of selecting Latin America regions with the global distribution of North America, Eurasia, and Bitcoin Hashrates.
