The “Benmo moment” in the code? Binance Pay’s scan and send upgrade brings us closer

7 months ago 4 Min Read

Copy pasting addresses and double-checked characters can quickly become obsolete. When you send on-chain and send it with a contact, Binance Pay reduces the cryptographic transfer to two steps: Scan or select, send. It seems that the era of Web3 wallet exercises is over.

According to a press release shared with Crypto.News on July 3, Binance Pay has rolled out two major features aimed at filling the gap between traditional digital payments and Crypto’s frequently tedious transfer processes.

By sending on-chain and sending with contact upgrades, users can send over 300 cryptocurrencies by selecting recipients from phone contacts or by scanning a QR code that increases manual address entry and gas fees for peer-to-peer transfers and selecting recipients from mobile phone contacts.

Jonathan Lim of Global Head of Binance Pay praised the move to one seamless experience as part of a broader push of “merging off-chain and chain transfers.”

“These features are part of our broader mission to bring everyday utilities to digital assets and simplify the way people connect, pay and transfer globally,” Lim said.

Binance’s payment method is to rewire crypto payments

New features include two of Crypto’s most persistent UX headaches: peer-to-peer transfers and chain transactions. Effectively convert the sender’s phone directory through contacts into a payment network, create a three-stage flow, select contacts, select amounts, and review transactions.

If the recipient is not using Binance, the sender can onboard directly from the app to create a built-in virus growth loop.

For external wallets, sending on-chain image recognition allows you to decode the wallet address from a screenshot or photo, but QR bypasses manual entries completely. The system may even cross-check common error characters, such as mistaken “O” and “0”. It may seem like a minor upgrade, but given the unforgiving nature of blockchain when the address is incorrect, it is an important safeguard.

For users, the advantage is immediate. Stablecoin transfers between Binance Pay users now mirror the speed of messaging apps. This is a game changer for remittances and invoice splits.

Merchants also get it. The same QR system that powers the French Riviera rollout is now available for use in peer-to-peer transactions as companies over the age of 80 now accept Crypto. This level of interoperability suggests that Binance is building an ecosystem where cryptographic movements are dynamically between individuals, similar to checkout counters.

The Ambition of Vinanence for the Ease of Usage of Everyday Codes

This is not the first move to Binance Pay’s actual utility. A few days before this update, the service partnered with French Fintech Rige to bring crypto payments to luxury hotels and retailers along the Cote d’Azur, from JW Marriott in Cannes to high-end boutiques in Monaco.

Public support for Mayor David Lisnard’s initiative highlighted the growing trend. Local governments and businesses now view crypto payments as infrastructure rather than novelty.

When combined with new transmission capabilities, these efforts reveal a broader strategy. Binance not only makes Crypto easier to use, but also vanishes the act of trading in the background, as contactless cards did for traditional payments.
