As developers stick to the 2026 Gramaster Dam plan, there is a risk of upgrades to Ethereum Q4 Fusaka

6 months ago 3 Min Read

Tomasz Stańczak, co-director of Ethereum Foundation (EF), has urged developers to pay attention to future Fusaka upgrades, warning that focusing on later Glamsterdam releases could put short-term advances at risk.

In an August 8 update for X, Stańczak said he advised project coordinators to pause discussions about Glamsterdam. The upgrade is not expected until early 2026 or mid-2026, but Fusaka is expected to be consolidated in the fourth quarter of 2025.

He argued that shifting the conversation to Fusaka is essential as the upgrades are already in the testnet phase and face time-sensitive development challenges.

Stańczak suggested that reducing the number of calls dedicated to future forks will help teams focus on solving current problems.

Why Fusaka Upgrades Still Become a Priority

EF executives emphasized that reaching Fusaka’s target date is essential to maintaining Ethereum’s broader roadmap. He warned that the network may not be able to provide the stated vision without more stringent adjustments.

He said:

“As I have said many times, if you can’t achieve a consistent level of adjustment that will consistently achieve your goals on your schedule, it’s not important to talk about your Ethereum roadmap and vision.”

Meanwhile, Stańczak expressed optimism to resolve the bottleneck that prompted the development team to propose a shift deadline.

He said:

“Talent engineers are already working on the issue. There’s a broad consensus that timelines are important.”

Fusaka will introduce various technical enhancements through multiple Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). These include peer data availability sampling (PEERDAS) to improve data distribution, adjusting transaction gas limits, and improving BLOB parameters. Collectively, these changes are expected to enhance scalability and performance.

Pushing to complete Fusaka follows a rise in pressure from the Ethereum community for a faster upgrade rollout. Many believe it is important to keep Ethereum competitive in the rapidly evolving blockchain landscape.

Glam Stardom remains on the roadmap and is expected to arrive before the third quarter of 2026. But for now, Stańczak argues that the immediate priorities of the network need to ensure a smooth and timely launch of Fusaka.
