Blockchain technology helps decentralize the US energy grid – VC

7 months ago 3 Min Read

Blockchain technology helps modernize the US electrical grid by leaving resources behind to create human labor and distributed energy infrastructure, according to Cosmo Jiang, general partner at Venture Capital Firm Pantera.

“All civilizations from the beginning of time are built on adjustments to incentives, and blockchain is just a new way to encourage people in a decentralized way that is impossible to ever do,” Jiang told Cointelgraf in an interview.

The VC explained that they have devised ways that companies in the gig economy can monetize their free time and resources outside of normal working hours through freelance commitments. Blockchain can take advantage of this by coordinating unused infrastructure, labor and resources to build a decentralized energy grid, Jiang said.

“There are several protocols that specialize in using token incentives to encourage everyday people to install solar panels on their roofs or batteries in their homes. And that way, we create this energy grid that is not concentrated and unfolded through heavy capital expenditures.”

Jiang concluded that while strengthening the grid with this type of energy dispersal, he will survive the regulatory deficit, which the Trump administration described as one of three pillars of its strategy to make the US a global leader in artificial intelligence.

Trump White House says strengthening the US energy grid is a top priority for AI development

“The US electric grid is one of the largest and most complex machines on the planet, and it needs to be upgraded to support data centers and other energy-intensive industries,” a recent White House report read.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly emphasized that the country must maximize its energy resources to meet the demand for AI data centers, crypto mining, and other high-performance computing applications.

This includes investigating nuclear power generation and shielding existing grid components from electromagnetic breakdowns, the president said.

Building redundant energy systems to ensure maximum grid uptime and resilience while ensuring critical backups are always available, is also a policy objective of the US President’s Energy Infrastructure Upgrade Plan.
