Agriforce launches a gas-powered Bitcoin mining site in Alberta and plans to expand to 1 eh/s

Agriforce Growing Systems (Agri), a small agricultural company that recently adopted Bitcoin mining, has launched its first Bitcoin

The Berwin, Alberta mining and digital computing site uses chain-covered natural gas to power 120 mining machines.

Developed by BlueFlare Energy, the site marks the company’s first operational milestone with a broader strategy to transform off-grid natural gas into energy-collected digital infrastructure.

The Berwyn facility currently has 425 kW and offers over 32 petahash (ph/s) of calculated power per second. The second phase under development will increase capacity by 200 kW. BlueFlare’s systems monitor emissions and provide real-time telemetry through proprietary OS and carbon tracking technology.

Using flare gas to mine Bitcoin is one way miners are trying to use cheaper energy sources to offset some of the marginal squeezes that hurt the industry. For several years, Flare Gas Bitcoin Mining has been a trend to monetize the wasted waste of natural gas produced when oil and gas companies drill for fossil fuels.

This development is part of Agriforce’s three strategies. Mining Bitcoin, building modular computing infrastructure, and monetizing energy.

This approach gained traction in a new binding agreement between Agriforce and BlueFlare, expanding operations to two additional Alberta sites, Oyen and Hinton. Combined, these deployments add 1.3 MW of natural gas-powered calculations and may support tasks beyond Bitcoin mining.

Model Agriforce pursues Sidesteps grid dependencies by tapping unused energy reserves and bringing them online immediately. The company says it has already mined seven BTCs on its Alberta and Ohio sites, and plans to hold up to half of its Bitcoin Holdings while using the rest to expand operations.

Agriforce aims to expand its computing power of 1 second per second (EH/s) by the first quarter of 2026, establishing its position as a player at the intersection of energy markets and distributed infrastructure.
