Compass Mining has launched operations in the first phase of its owned Bitcoin mining facility in Iowa, the company announced Tuesday.
Compass Mining Enhances the 1st Phase of the 30 MW Iowa Project
The first 8 megawatts (MW) phase of the 30 MW project is online, with construction of the remaining capacity set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. Located on the five-acre site, the announcement shared with Bitcoin.com news says the facility is expanding its compass mining portfolio of self-management infrastructure.
Paul Gosker, CEO of Compass Mining, said the move will provide customers with greater control over the compass operations and the flexibility to choose a hosting site. The Iowa facility follows the recent launch of a water-cooled mining site in North Dakota.
In 2024, Compass added nearly 50 MW of power capacity to six US states, including Indiana, Ohio and Texas. The company said the expansion coincides with a strategy to expand its owned infrastructure while maintaining partnerships with third-party hosting providers.
The company did not disclose a forecast timeline to complete the Iowa facility or related costs. “Expanding our own own infrastructure is a critical step in strengthening our compass mining position as a leader in Bitcoin mining hosting,” said Paul Gosker, CEO of Compass Mining. Goscar added:
Owning and operating your own site allows customers to take greater operational control and choose from a network of trusted third-party facilities to maximize individual needs and preferences.
