Bitcoin’s Next Era of Difficulty Could Rewrite Leaderboards in 2025

4 months ago 4 Min Read

Just 10 days after the difficulty level dropped by 2.73%, the Bitcoin wheels are turning again. If miners continue to create blocks at this pace, we could see a significant increase in difficulty in the next epoch. Approximately 81% of the 2,016 blocks have already been mined and are ready for the expected changes on October 29, 2025.

Bitcoin mining could increase network difficulty this week

It’s been a full week since Bitcoin’s computing power skyrocketed to 1,164 exahashes per second (EH/s). Fast forward to today and we are cruising around 1,122 EH/s. Although it is a slight cooldown, it is still impressively high despite the fact that the daily revenue per petahash is lower than a month ago.

Before the last difficulty epoch in block 919296, miners were limping along and recording intervals slower than their target of 10 minutes. As of October 26th at 3pm ET, blocks are coming in at an average time of 9 minutes and 21 seconds, according to statistics from hashrateindex.com.

If this tempo is maintained, the forecast is for a 6.77% increase in difficulty. However, given that there are about 390 blocks left, this number could easily change. So far in 2025, Bitcoin has survived 21 difficulty corrections (15 price increases and 6 corrections), with a net gain of approximately 32.8%.

If the current prediction of 6.77% holds true, he will win the bronze medal in this year’s most difficult jump. The reigning champion belongs to block 905184 on July 12th, which recorded a significant increase of 7.96%. The silver medal is block 891072 on April 5th with an increase of 6.81%, and block 917280 on October 1st with an increase of 5.97%, and the top three positions are now confirmed.

Naturally, the next correction will be narrower once Bitcoin miners let off the gas. But if they keep their foot on the pedal, or push harder, they could seriously hit the July and April records and make some money. With only a few hundred blocks remaining until retargeting on October 29th, all eyes are on Bitcoin’s hash rate and block spacing tempo.

Whether miners maintain momentum or put their foot on the brakes, the upcoming adjustment will mark another milestone in a year that has already seen a surge in hash rate milestones and mining difficulty records. This is proof that the world’s top blockchains never remain idle for long.
