Bitmain launched the Antminer S23 Hydro series, featuring 580 Terahash (TH/S) performance per second and 5,510 watts of power consumption, making it the “most efficient” mining rig available.
Decreasing demand for mining rigs
Bitcoin Mining Rig Maker Bitmain has announced its new Antminer S23 Hydro series. It reportedly has 580 terra hash (Th/s) with a power consumption of 5,510 watts. This performance corresponds to an efficiency rate of 9.5 Joules per terrahash (J/TH) making the Ant Miner the “most efficient” mining rig on the market.
According to the latest report from Theminermag.com, the new rigs are particularly suited for Bitcoin miners looking to maximize output while lowering operating costs. This was launched at the World Digital Mining Summit (WDMS) 2025, an event where Bitmain mining president Irene Gao discussed the company’s strategy to address the decline in demand for mining rigs.
As highlighted in the analysis, Bitmain offers flexible payment terms, including the option to pay in three installments starting at 40% of the sale value. Buyers have the option to pledge Bitcoin (BTC) for up to six months to secure their mining rig.
Following the latest half of BTC on April 20, 2024, Bitcoin Miner has seen a decline in revenue after reducing block rewards from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC. This left mining companies with the option to upgrade to a more energy-efficient machine or seek cheaper energy. Mining companies that can’t achieve either of these may be forced to stop operations.
Meanwhile, the report argues that ASIC hardware buyers retain more negotiation power, as seen in recent transactions. Companies such as CleanSpark, Hut 8 and Hive have said they are taking advantage of the demand and manufacturers’ needs to maintain sales despite the tighter margins, ensuring favorable conditions from Bitmain.
Meanwhile, Bitmain expects to make the first shipment of its latest Antminer S23 Hydro in the first quarter of 2026, with early buyers expected to receive a discount.
