Bitcoin isn’t just something you keep anymore. It’s something that’s alive. This was the core message provided by Miles Suter, the lead Bitcoin product at today’s Bitcoin 2025 conference. Standing at the intersection of innovation and ideology, Star laid out the vision that Bitcoin is not just a valuable repository, but a native currency for the Internet.
“Bitcoin is at a crossroads, and on the other hand, it was never strong. It tells the story of market capitalization, millions of holders, and even national state adoption,” Suter says. “We use Bitcoin to hedge and opt out, but we rarely use it. At Block, we think it has to be changed.”
Suter has officially announced that Block is deploying merchants’ Bitcoin payments features using Square POS, allowing them to accept Bitcoin directly in the store. The move would cover acquisitions, management, reporting, accounting, conversion, lending and taxes as some of the broad initiative blocks call full Bitcoin for the business stack.

“This is what makes Bitcoin a daily currency for everyone,” he emphasized. “We believe that hardworking entrepreneurs deserve access to Bitcoin’s full power.”
To prove the vision in action, the block helped to promote Guinness World Record attempts for the most lightning payments in one day, held live at the conference. Goal: Lightning Payment is not just a feature, it proves that it’s scalable, fast and realistic.
Block’s commitment is nothing new. In 2020, the company put Bitcoin on its balance sheet. In 2021, he co-founded the Bitcoin Clean Energy Initiative to combat the “boiled sea” story. In 2022, the Cash app became one of Lightning’s first major platforms. In 2023, we started paying on the chain with Square. And in 2024 it “stalked for Satoshi” and helped defeat Craig Wright in court.
“These are more than just headlines, they are patterns,” Starr said. “We’ve made it more accessible and safer. Now we’re focusing on making it easier to use every day.”
Cash apps are already ranked among the top US Bitcoin-on-ramps, and always account for nearly 10% of chain-on-chain block space. In 2024, lightning bolts have been used seven times more. “Block runs one of the top lightning bolts around the world, and this is what it’s wild. It’s working,” he said.

Block currently takes 10% of all profits from Bitcoin and adds it to its balance sheet, with over 1,700 merchants automatically converting a portion of their daily sales into Bitcoin.
“If Bitcoin went digital gold, we failed our mission,” Starr said. “Bitcoin payments validate Bitcoin. They make it a reality. Bitcoin is money.”
