Bodoggos paid an app that paid discussion about NFT holder qualifications

8 months ago 3 Min Read

The tweet directed to the Bodoggos team to charge a subscription fee to the Trading News app sparked industry-wide debate about what NFT holders are eligible to receive.

@Lewsipphur tweeted a screenshot on June 17th from what appears to be a holder-only section of the Bodoggos Discord. In the screenshot, Nick O’Neill, CEO and co-founder of Bodoggos, shares details about the “first version of the app.” @Lewsipphur had to require Bodoggos holders to pay for app access, but the Bodoggos team defended the need to cover “ongoing costs.”

As this interaction continues on X, many big names, collectors and everyday members of the community added opinions on what should qualify for NFT holders from the NFT project.

What do NFT holders have the right to do?

This is the heart of the discussion, and why are we seeing such a passionate discussion on this topic?

On the one hand, the original Tweeter @Lewsipphur and his supporters generally believe that NFT collectible holders need to receive access to future products, developments and releases.

Meanwhile, Bodogo and his supporters argue that these products have many ongoing costs, including API fees, employee salaries, and operating costs.

Core members of the Bodoggos team, including Nick O’Neill and @easyeatsbodega, responded directly to @Lewsiphur’s tweet and discussed the situation.

How did the community react?

Many big names from Web3 took part in the discussion.

Foundable and CEO Leon Abboud said the argument “exposed the biggest issue with the NFTS.”

@mattmedved argued that in reality “web3 businesses are still business,” and that “they are run by actual people with invoices they pay, families for support, and operating costs to cover operating expenses.” In a conversation with @deprisprisinghacks, @Mattmedved discusses “the tension many projects face between building sustainable revenue streams and providing value to holders.”

June 18th, Bodoggos team member @Chilearmy123 asked “What’s wrong” after the 0.01 ETH Open Edition Mint in December 2024. Zeneca attempted to “make it cheap and dump it to the next fool” in an attempt to “have it cheaply.”

The majority of public debates are largely the same, but questions still remain. What should NFT holders receive from their NFT collections?
