Brian Armstrong creates “open call” for former Dodge staff to join Coinbase

8 months ago 4 Min Read

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong threw his support behind former officials from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a government agency formed under President Donald Trump’s second administration.

On Tuesday afternoon, Armstrong retweeted Viral Fox News A clip of 22-year-old Ethan Xiaotlan, a member of Harvard Dropout and Doge.

This is an open call from @Doge staff. If you are looking for the next mission after serving your country, consider helping you create a more efficient financial system in the world with @Coinbase.

In the video, Xiaotlan said that he lost his friend and social status as a result of his employment at the agency.

“Most of the campus hates me,” Xiaotlan said. “I hope that through conversations like this, people will realize that reform is really necessary.”

Xiaotlan later praised the Doge team for their dedication, noting that they often work tirelessly until 2am every week without weekends.

For Shaotran, the value and impact of Doge’s work was “a lot more vast than what you could learn in a computer science classroom.”

However, Armstrong’s posts were not just retweets of viral videos. It comes with offers provided by former Dodge staff to work at Coinbase.

“If you are looking for your next mission after serving your country, consider helping you create a more efficient financial system in the world,” Armstrong said.

Under his main post, Armstrong provided the link.

“If you complete the final mission, let’s talk about what we can build next,” the recruitment form reads.

Doge Days

Armstrong’s statement comes about two weeks after Elon Musk tried to distance himself from Doge amid the protest.

“It’s funny that we have doges,” Musk said at a cabinet meeting held at the White House on April 30th.

“Isn’t that absurd, like we’re doing simulations here, or what’s going on, that absurd isn’t it? But it was a meme coin at some point,” Musk said. “How did you get here?”

Musk, along with Vivek Ramaswamy, led Doge after Trump signed the executive order on January 20th, officially renamed US Digital Services as US Doge Services (USDS). The efficiency of its full name, government, is like a false admiration, since official government divisions can only be established by the law of parliament.

Doge’s goal was to reduce federal spending by $2 trillion by eliminating unnecessary agencies and programs. So far, Doge claims it has saved $170 billion, but news organizations have questioned “discordance” in reports.

Doge, mostly stationed with young, tech-savvy operatives, faced early scrutiny due to security issues, hacking Ramaswamy’s X account, and unauthorized access to the Ministry of Finance. In January, Musk claimed that Doge was investigating blockchain-based technology.

Coinbase and Trump

As Coinbase has become increasingly open about its political stance, an invitation to Armstrong’s former Dodge staff comes.

The company spent more than $70 million in 2024 supporting Trump-friendly Crypto PAC.

Coinbase has joined other crypto and venture capital companies to support Trump.

In January, Coinbase welcomed Trump’s campaign co-manager, Chris Lacivita, to its advisory board after Trump took office.

Soon after that, the SEC dropped many lawsuits against crypto companies, including Coinbase in February.
