Canaan Inc. pulled back the curtain on the next-generation Avalon A16 series Bitcoin miner and unveiled the A16XP model at the Blockchain Life 2025 Summit in Dubai. The new ASIC-equipped machines deliver 300 terahash per second (TH/s) flexibility with a lean energy efficiency rating of 12.8 joules per terahash (J/TH).

According to a media release, the A16XP, an air-cooled mining machine, is aimed at giving miners a sharp edge in an increasingly competitive environment where every joule counts. With Canaan’s signature durability and reliability, the machine is designed to help mine operators maintain uptime and efficiency even as network challenges increase, according to the company.

Chairman and CEO Nangeng Zhang further said that the launch reflects “our leap forward in both energy efficiency and computing power,” adding that the A16 series continues Canaan’s streak of “engineering and execution excellence.” In early October 2025, Canaan secured its largest hardware order in three years. This was a massive sale of 50,000 units of the Avalon A15 Pro miner to a large but unknown US Bitcoin mining company.

The mining equipment manufacturer detailed that pre-orders for the A16 series are now open and will be shipped from the company’s production centers in North America, East Asia and Southeast Asia. This development signals Canaan’s intent to gain an edge in the application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) race where efficiency, power density, and heat are the deciding factors.

Canaan says the A16 series is more than just high-speed hashing, it’s a statement about vertical integration. The company continues to expand across the Bitcoin value chain, from chip design to hardware manufacturing, self-mining, and even financial management. This end-to-end strategy claims to strengthen resilience through the cyclical nature of the mining sector.

As Canaan expands globally, it plans to strengthen its international sales and post-sales support network and offer what the company calls “world-class hardware solutions” to miners looking to gain previously unavailable efficiency advantages. Still, the ASIC manufacturing sector is crowded with competitors such as Auradine, Bitmain, Block, and MicroBT. All of these companies are also adding new units to the Bitcoin mining arms race.
