A pioneering application-specific rollup of modular blockchain protocols, Cartesi has introduced an upgraded version of the Honeypot Dapp. Once the new milestone is complete, the protocol may be listed in L2Beat within the Stage 2 rollup.
Cartesi L2 activates critical updates for security
According to the project’s official statement, Cartesi, the new generation of EVM rollup network, has shipped a massive upgrade to Honeypot Dapp. Mainly, it contributes to the security of Cartesi’s smart contracts and its overall technical architecture.
Meet the Cartel PRT Honeypot
We tested the AppChain Stack with the first rollup application equipped with a PRT fraud prevention system.
A key milestone for decentralization and unreliable security, in line with @L2Beat standards.

Currently equipped with Cartesi’s unauthorized referee tournament (PRT) fraud prevention system, Honeypot reflects the project’s commitment to security, transparency and open development.
First launched on Ethereum Mainnet two years ago, Honeypot is called a “hacking challenge based on the concept of honeypots,” but it transforms community-discovered audits and roll-up security tests through Gameified Hacker Battlefield.
This latest version is enhanced by PRT, a fraud prevention system that guarantees resistance to civil attacks without relying on permitted verification devices or heavy hardware.
Cartesi founder Erick de Moura explains the motivations behind the implementation of the new upgrade and what it means for Ethereum’s L2S ecosystem security design.
We don’t expect trust to be given – it should earn money. Honeypot allows the project to commit its own funds to verify the integrity of the fault proof before asking others to rely on them. This is a progressive, transparent path to unreliable security that reflects the values that this ecosystem has built.
With Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin recently highlighting the need for all Layer 2 to adopt a fraud prevention mechanism, Cartesi’s new honeypot upgrade represents a necessary and important achievement.
Medical charts included in the stage 2 category of L2beat
L2Beat, the leading open source analytics platform for Layer 2 solutions, evaluates projects based on a proof system that validates rollup data for secure Ethereum payments.
It is considered a major industry benchmark for roll-up decentralization and security, and is currently reclassifying the L2 project based on progress towards a fully operational fraud prevention system.
Due to a completely unauthorized fraud prevention system that does not rely on gated multisigs for intervention, honeypots could be directly reclassified as stage 2.
Going forward, the team is developing the next generation of “Dave” fraud systems to further enhance security.
