Ethereum celebrates 10 years with iconic torch NFT and Eyes Fusaka upgrades

8 months ago 3 Min Read

Ethereum celebrates its 10th anniversary with the iconic gestures and technical leap of the blockchain network.

Ethereum Toch nft

On July 20th, the network revealed that since July 30th, 2015, it has launched a ritual “torch” NFT to celebrate the people and principles that have shaped the decentralized journey.

According to the Ethereum website:

“Like a ritual flame that moves from community to community, Ethereum Torches travel through the global Ethereum ecosystem. This special NFT is passed from wallet to wallet among carefully selected community members, developers and architects who have shaped the Ethereum story over the past decade.”

The first torchbearer was Ethereum co-founder Joseph Rubin, who held it for 24 hours before handing it over to Taiwan’s digital minister Audrey Tang. Tan also maintains the torch for 24 hours before transferring to another influential person in the Ethereum community.

This process continues until July 30th, when NFTs “burn” and unlock the commemorative token that anyone can mint freely.

Fusaka hard fork

While Ethereum celebrates the past, network developers are also preparing for the next important protocol upgrade Fusaka, which will be launched in November 2025.

This update follows the recent Pectra Fork and includes several improvements to increase scalability and network robustness.

On July 17th, Tim Beiko of Ethereum Foundation confirmed that Fusaka’s Devnet-3 will be released on July 23rd.

The upgrade will test approximately 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPS). However, one of the notable proposals aimed at increasing the largest smart contract size, EIP-7907 was removed after a pushback from the core development team.

See also  The public company currently owns $3.2 billion worth of Ethereum, which has swelled above 865,000 ETH.

Beiko further emphasized that Fusaka is targeting the revitalization of the mainnet between November 5th and 12th.

He noted that the upgrade roadmap includes two successful testnets, an early bug bounty program, and stress testing via the Holesky testnet.

However, concerns remain regarding the stability of the testnet and audit preparation.

Holesky upgrades are expected to be a key indicator of network preparation for a full deployment. It provides developers with valuable insights without risking the confusion of key users.
