Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has set new records for open profits.

Ethereum (ETH)’s open profits on CME futures reached an all-time high of $7.855 billion, according to Maartunn, community analyst at Cryptocant, a community analyst on the on-chain analytics platform.

Open profit refers to the total number of unresolved futures contracts that have not yet been resolved.

Ethereum’s open profit advantage is increasing, reaching its highest level since April 2023, showing a major change in the market focus.

According to GlassNode, Ethereum’s persistent volume advantage is surpassing Bitcoin for the first time due to the low 2022 cycle, representing the largest volume skew that favors Ethereum’s record.

Open interest beyond the top altcoins (Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Doge) has risen significantly since the beginning of July, rising from $26 billion to $44 billion. As traders open up more leveraged positions, this sudden increase in future leverage means a clear escalation in speculative activity.

Increased leverage increases both upside down and underside volatility, contributing to a more responsive and vulnerable market environment.

What’s next?

Ethereum recently traded at $3,743, decisively defeating many important on-chain resistance levels.

Secondly, the +1 standard deviation range of the +1 standard deviation range of the active realised price of Ethereum by GlassNode could provide insight into the potential upward targets of the ETH rally.

Currently, the +1σ threshold is $4,500. This is considered an overheating zone given current market conditions. This price range is already serving as a resistance level for the current cycle in March 2024 and the previous 2020/2021 cycle.

As a result, $4,500 can be highlighted as an important target for monitoring benefits, especially if Ethereum continues to advance. If above this level, Ethereum aims to reach the current all-time high of $4,891, reaching November 2021.
