The Ethereum Core developers have confirmed that the highly anticipated Pectra upgrade will be rolled out on May 7th.
Nixo Rokish, a member of the Ethereum Foundation’s protocol support team, shared the news in a social media post in a post on April 3rd, saying:
“The Pectra Mainnet date was confirmed on May 7th.
Ethereum Core contributor Terence also revealed that Pectra will perform live at 10:05:11 UTC on May 7th. The date will effectively be replaced by the interim April 30 plan previously under consideration but was eventually discarded.
According to Rokish, finalizing that date would not have met the 30-day notice period requested by the builder building on top of Ethereum.
He explained:
“April 30 has not been confirmed, and I personally defended it on May 7 until April 30, because the builders built on Ethereum had been checking today, April 30, for a 30-day head-up from the date of confirmation up to the fork.”
Ethereum Turning Point
Pectra is considered an important update aimed at improving wallet functionality and improving the user experience.
Industry leaders have suggested that they can update the energy within the Ethereum ecosystem, which has been facing increasing pressure in recent months.
Tracy Jin, COO of Crypto Exchange MEXC, believes that upgrades could rekindle on-chain activity by mitigating transaction costs and improving scalability. She said Encryption:
“If Ethereum Network upgrades are not postponed (again), network scalability will increase and fees will be reduced. This could potentially be a catalyst for reviving activity within the network and returning to the $3,000 mark.”
Ethereum has been facing major challenges recently. In the first quarter of 2025, assets fell 45%, marking one of the worst quarterly performance since 2022.
The Ethereum community has also expressed its leadership concerns and has encouraged changes to the Ethereum Foundation. Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak have been appointed co-executive directors, while Aya Miyaguchi has moved into the role of foundation chairman.
