Top Crypto Exchange Vinance and Coinbase will temporarily suspend Ethereum (ETH) deposits and drawers in preparation for future Pectra upgrades of the network.

Binance said ETH and tokens in layer 2 networks such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Scroll, WorldCoin and Zksync will be affected. The exchange pause begins at 09:45 (UTC).

The exchange has encouraged users to not be able to move funds during the upgrade window while continuing the transaction without interruption. This action helps prevent potential problems due to forks and network reorganization.

With this in mind, the exchange urged users who plan to bridge or withdraw assets to act before the suspension begins.

Coinbase reflects the same approach and confirmed that ETH forwarding is stopped as a precaution during the upgrade process.

Brian Armstrong-led Exchange said existing piling assets remain untouched, but new staking requests will be retained until after 3:45am.

Pectra Upgrade for Ethereum

The Pectra upgrade represents an important technical milestone for Ethereum. Combine suggestions from Prague and Electra upgrades to streamline user experience and developer operations.

Pectra combines eight Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPS) and one major change is gaining attention.

A notable proposal, EIP-7702, introduces account abstraction. This feature allows a regular crypto wallet to act like a smart contract. As a result, users can ultimately pay their gas fees using tokens other than ETH.

However, the path to this upgrade is not smooth. The developers of Ethereum faced the issue of finalizing Holesky Testnet due to a bug linked to an incorrect deposit contract address. These caused chain splitting and instability.

Another issue with Sepolia TestNet triggered by a custom deposit agreement also interrupted blocking.

With these set-offs, the developers launched a new testnet called Hoodi to finalize their tests.

After a successful run of the test, the Ethereum Core developer confirmed that the May 7th Pectra upgrade will be released later today.

Despite the hype and expectations of the upgrade, ETH prices are barely moving. Data from Encryption It only showed a 1.5% increase over the last 24 hours, with token trading at around $1,828 as of press time.
