FC Barcelona, which is worth $5.65 billion by Spanish football club Forbes, is releasing an NFT wallet called Barça.Pass as part of its digital strategy.
Anyone with a Barca ID will now be able to claim a wallet, and ultimately use it to create an FC Barcelona Avatar NFT, customize the character with official products, and collect other types of digital items in anticipation of the upcoming FCB mobile racing game.
We have set up Barça Pass for the Crypto Infra Futureverse. Futureverse CEO Aaron McDonald told me that NFT avatars exist in the gaming-focused L1 blockchain route and can be equipped with “semi-fundy” wearable digital items. The root is EVM compatible and uses XRP as a gas token and XRPL XLS-20 NFT standard.
The wearable will be available for purchase via FCB’s Shopify integration, MacDonald’s explained.
Traders can also buy and sell FCB digital items in markets such as Tradiverse, integrated with the route chain ecosystem, and can purchase those items using cryptographic information such as routes and XRP.
According to a post from FCB, more than 11 million BarçaIDs had already been created prior to their release.

However, wallets aren’t just wrappers to hold avatars. McDonald told me that Passes supports “a wide range of on-chain experiences and applications that developers build.”

FCB previously loaned its name to different (non-cryptic) mobile games for many years. This includes endless runner mobile games from around ten years ago and cooking games from 2018.
Last year I launched a mobile minigame app called Barça Games, but the app is no longer available on the Google Play Store.
