Filecoin pins Solana data and ends your dependency on Big Tech

  • Filecoin Archives Solana’s complete chain of distributed storage ends its dependence on traditional services for historical data.
  • PDP technology and fast finality provide developers with low latency CID searches, while on-chain AI agents acquire verifiable and tamper-proof data sources.

Filecoin’s role in the Solana Ecosystem now goes beyond simple storage. The distributed storage platform is a critical component of Solana’s data infrastructure and provides a complete and persistent archive of the entire blockchain history.

Filecoin does not work alone. Instead, they are partnering with teams like Triton One and DCent to run a project called Old Faithful, part of a larger initiative known as Project Yellowstone. They want to archive the entire history of the Solana blockchain in decentralized storage without resorting to traditional corporate big data services.

A content identifier (CID)-based approach allows you to search and access data directly from multiple storage nodes without asking the central server. It’s like having a huge library with no main doors. There are people who can enter from anywhere.

FileCoin enhances real-time apps, verifiable AI, and digital archives

On the other hand, Solana is not the only one who benefits from the power of Filecoin. In mid-June, Filecoin partnered with Theoriq to directly build a fully verifiable AI agent on the blockchain. The models and decisions for these agents are published in the Filecoin network, and the results cannot be altered deliberately. For AI developers who want high transparency, such a solution is certainly a wise choice.

Additionally, in May, Filecoin also introduced PDP technology, or proof of data ownership. This allows users to quickly access stored data without having to wait long, but is still in distributed systems. Coupled with fast finality, Filecoin now supports the needs of low latency applications.

This means that the platform is not only suitable for archives, but can also be used together with applications that require speed and transparency at the same time. Imagine a responsive digital wallet system or trading platform. However, that data is stored in a secure distributed network.

Interestingly, Filecoin’s role in maintaining the sustainability of cultural data is also beginning to be seen. Recently, CNF reported that the Flickr Foundation uploaded 1,000 most viewed cultural photos to Filecoin. The goal is to ensure that these images can be published in the long term, even if the original site has disappeared from the internet.

FileCoin, along with the IPFS protocol, can spread these photos to many nodes. So, if one location goes down, the other locations are still active.

Back in Solana, the data that enters Filecoin is not only stored, but is archived in a resilient way. The storage capacity is not small either. Filecoin is much larger than Solana’s data volume and can record 2-3 petabytes of data per day. In fact, access to Solana’s history can be made public without hassle and without special permission through gateways such as 4Sol.xyz.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, FIL is $2.19below 2.49% Over the past 24 hours, the market capitalization has fallen below $1.5 billion.
