Kucoin will launch fully regulated digital asset exchanges in Thailand under SEC license

8 months ago 3 Min Read

Global Cryptocurrency Exchange Kucoin officially launches a fully regulated digital asset platform in Thailand, demonstrating a major strategic expansion into major Southeast Asian markets.

The new platform, Kucoin Tha, is now accessible to all eligible users in the country and operates under license from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand (SEC).

Locally compliant platform with Thai BAHT integration

Designed specifically for the Thai market, this new platform combines Kucoin’s global technology infrastructure with localized capabilities. Most notably, the exchange integrates the direct fiat-on and off-ramps of Thai baht, streamlines the user experience and removes important friction points for local residents. The platform provides legal and fully regulatory oversight for digital asset trading services.

This launch is part of Kucoin’s broader global compliance strategy. The company recently acquired two major international security certifications, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, to verify data protection and operational integrity.

In a statement, Kucoin CEO BC Wong noted that it was based on the company’s other regulatory success, including its recent registration with the Financial Information Unit (FIU).

Why Thailand is a key market for crypto exchanges

Kucoin’s major investment in localized platforms is driven by Thailand’s position as a major player in digital asset adoption. In 2023, an estimated 13 million people were found in the country. It was reported that about 18% of the population used cryptocurrency.

Thai authorities are also taking aggressive steps to expand crypto use cases, including a recent plan to enable crypto spending for tourists through credit card integration. This combination of grassroots adoption and advancing regulatory environment makes Thailand one of the most attractive markets for global crypto exchanges looking to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia.
