Self-scattering malware found in Privacy Crypto dero: The newly discovered Linux malware campaign is compromising on unsecured Docker infrastructure around the world, turning exposed servers into part of a decentralized cryptojacking network that mines privacy coin Dero. According to a report from cybersecurity company Kaspersky, the attack begins by leveraging the published Docker API. In software terminology, Docker is a set of applications or platform tools that deliver software in small packages called containers. Once access is obtained, the malware generates a malicious container. Infects what is already running, sucks up system resources and scans and scans additional targets without the need for a central command server. As of early May, over 520 Docker APIs were published worldwide on port 2375. Each is a potential target. – Shaurya Malwa read more.

FIFA taps avalanches for its own blockchain: FIFA is the global governing body of football and will use Avalanche’s network to strengthen its own dedicated Layer-1 blockchain. The FIFA blockchain is the Avalanche L1, a customizable blockchain that uses Avalanche technology (formerly known as a subnet). The news comes as Avalanche Network recently went through a major Avalanche9000 upgrade aimed at attracting new developers and encouraging them to create customized L1s. Thursday’s announcement is not FIFA’s first foray into the world of blockchain and crypto. In 2022, Football Body released a Uneven Token (NFT) collection on the Algorand blockchain ahead of the Qatar World Cup. – Margaux nijkerk read more.

  • Bitcoin’s upward trend continued to show signs of weakness early on Wednesday despite a surge in Wall Street technology stocks overnight, in anticipation of bright revenues from AI giant Nvidia (NVDA). According to Data Source Coingecko, it is the leading cryptocurrency by market value traded for nearly $108,900 at the time of press, teasing the shortcomings of the trendline that characterizes the upward trend since early April. • The US Senate is approaching passing its groundbreaking Stablecoin Bill, the Genius Act, following the battle that Senator Cynthia Ramis (R-Wyo.), the bill’s leading legislative champion, fights incredibly hard. “It was extremely difficult,” Ramis said in a fireplace chat with Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal at Bitcoin 2025 in Las Vegas on Tuesday. “I didn’t know how difficult this would be.” Last week, the Senate voted for advancing the bill, easily clearing the 60-vote threshold required to kick the bill to the final stage of discussion before the final vote, leaving it all to it. Previous attempts have failed on a bipartisan basis after Senate Democrats led by years of crypto skeptic Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and several Republicans, including Josh Hawley of Missouri and Rand Paul of Kentucky. – Cheyenne Ligon read more.
