A major milestone has arrived in the evolution of distributed data infrastructure. The newly launched Space and Time Foundation aims to support next-generation blockchain-based applications by allowing developers to build with data demonstrated by Zero Knowledge (ZK).
–
The foundation acts as an independent steward of the growing space and time ecosystem, shifting responsibility from the traditional corporate model to a community-centered open governance structure. This represents the key step in distributing the infrastructure behind one of the most advanced data protocols in Web3.
Support for scalable and verifiable crypto infrastructure
As blockchain technology matures, decentralized applications are expected to match or outperform traditional Web2 counterparts in performance and refinement. However, one persistent challenge is building complex on-chain applications that can efficiently store, calculate, and query data without compromising decentralization.
Space and time were created to solve that challenge.
Network Co-Inovation is a distributed database powered by ZK, which allows smart contracts to access verifiable queries in real time.
By providing tamper-proof data processing through proof of SQL mechanisms, the bridge between space and time bridges the gap between high-performance infrastructure and unreliable calculations.
With the launch of the foundation, the protocol enters a new phase. This is the stage that emphasizes long-term sustainability, ecosystem growth and community-driven governance.
Foundation duties
Founded in late 2024, The Space and Time Foundation was created to support the continued growth and decentralization of the network. Its core goals are:
Ensuring sustainability and network health through collaboration with developers, node operators and stakeholders
Research and adoption of space and time core ZK technology
Expanding global presence by developing legal, technological and operational frameworks across multiple jurisdictions
Leading governance towards open, transparency and community-driven models
The foundation is expected to play a central role in enabling developers to create new types of applications across sectors such as Defi, AI, gaming, and enterprise data.
MakeInfinite Labs: From creators to contributors
The original developer of the protocol, Space and Time Labs, has been rebranded as Makeinfinite Labs and will continue to contribute to the ecosystem. Under the leadership of CEO Nate Holiday, MakeInfinite Labs will continue to focus on zero knowledge research, enterprise integration and innovation in the application layer.
MakeInfinite Labs will be responsible for several groundbreaking achievements, including:
Inventing the Proof of SQL, the world’s first subsecond ZK coprocessor for SQL queries
Design and launch of verifiable, high-performance databases tailored to smart contracts
Build a vibrant global network of researchers, developers and advocates
The Foundation will oversee the broader development of spatial and temporal protocols going forward, but MakeInfinite Labs will serve as a core contributor.
Leadership and Governance
To ensure continuity and maintain institutional knowledge, several key members of MakeInfinite Labs have moved into foundation leadership roles.
Scott Dykstra, co-founder of Space and Time Labs, will be engagement to contributor #001, leading engineering, research and developers.
Katherine Daly, who previously led marketing at the lab, has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer, tasked with growing the community and expanding the ecosystem.
The foundation is administered by an independent board of directors tasked with managing strategic direction and oversight of the Ministry of Finance. The Board operates independently of MakeInfinite Labs to ensure a neutral and reliable governance attitude. The roles of more contributors and leadership are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, focusing on bringing in voices from the wider community.
