Status (SNT), known for its distributed communications platform since 2017, has launched its first native gasless layer 2 network on TestNet. Building on Consensys’ Linea Zkevm rollup, the new Status Network removes transaction fees and introduces a community-focused yield allocation system.
Instead of charging a gas fee, status converts bridged ETH and Stablecoins into assets with yields such as Steth and SDAI. This yield is accompanied by fees from native applications, funders and liquidity providers. This model aims to attract users and deposits, creating an independent cycle in which higher activity produces more yields for the ecosystem. Pending governance approval may support some of this yield, including SNT token buybacks and burns.
Status Network is designed for use cases across games, social apps, and defi. Early apps include mobile RPGs, on-chain gacha games, and Metaverse casino, with more defi tools planned.
Testnet V1 is currently live and supports completely gas-free transactions. A second testnet version with spam protection and yield routing is scheduled for October 2025. Mainnet is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2026.
