ChainLink has joined the Plexos Institute and Edinheiro on a project to expand financial access in Brazil through locally issued blockchain social currency. The partnership will be launched in Indiaroba, Sergipe, and with the launch of the Aratu currency, serving a community of around 18,000 residents.
Social currency is issued by local governments or community banks and is used to distribute local payments and aid. Already supporting more than 180 social currencies in Brazil, Edinhailo’s platform handles the issuance and management of Arato. ChainLink’s technology provides a secure link between local data systems and blockchain operations, enabling automated reporting, auditing, and compliance with Brazilian data protection rules.
The project is the official use case for Blockchain Brazil Network (RBB), a public infrastructure created by the federal courts and the National Development Bank. RBB aims to improve transparency and efficiency in public programs. The Plexos Institute is an associate member and validator on your network.
By adding ChainLink connectivity and security, partners plan to make social currencies more transparent and manageable. The Indiaroba initiative is expected to serve as a model for similar programs in other regions, helping local governments distribute aid and stimulate economic activity in underserved areas.
