UN agency expanding Crypto Tech’s government next year

5 months ago 3 Min Read

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is planning to launch a “Government Blockchain Academy.”

The agency said Monday that it will partner with blockchain and artificial intelligence advocacy to launch an academy next year with the nonprofit Index Science Foundation.

“The Academy will provide specialized education and implementation programs that utilize blockchain, AI and other emerging technologies to drive transformative change,” UNDP said.

The agency is tasked with helping the country create long-term economic growth to tackle poverty. Developing countries, including India, Pakistan and Vietnam, were among the top adopters of crypto technology this year, according to chain analysis.

Financial Services, an Academy to steer digital IDs

UNDP said the academy will ultimately focus on education, which considers deploying blockchain-related technologies to address “immediate development challenges.”

Irena Serovic, UNDP team leader in Europe and Central Asia, said the academy aims to allow the country to move from ‘to tackle complex development challenges in new ways and experiment’ to implementation in a way that enhances transparency, inclusion and resilience.

Some areas of interest have been using this technology to improve access to financial services and digital payments, as well as to create “reliable, verifiable digital credentials that enhance access to services.”

He also educated on how to use blockchain for tracing and accounting in the public procurement process, and on “tamper-resistant recordkeeping” to tackle corruption in order to “tamper-resistant recordkeeping.”

UNDP plans to launch Blockchain Academy next year

Although UNDP did not provide a specific timeline, the academy said it will start in several countries starting in 2026.

The programme will provide education in-person, online and in forums, provide “structured support” to the government and “high-impact blockchain initiatives addressing national priorities.”

The agency launched the Blockchain Academy last year.

The agency’s planned government blockchain academy follows the launch of a similar “blockchain academy” that was released last year.

UNDP partnered with the Algorand Foundation in late 2023 to train 22,000 staff on the blockchain to use this teaching to support sustainable growth.
