Recent developments on blockchain developer engagement demonstrate the overall downclub in delegation events and contributions within a variety of prominent blockchain ecosystems. This information highlights issues currently affecting blockchain development in 2025, with some notable exceptions showing positive dynamics.

Developer involvement in major blockchain ecosystems is reduced

Ethereum remains the network with the most events of 83.5k developer activity, even if activity drops at a rate of 15.21%. The number of contributors also fell by 3.6% to 1.3k contributors. The BNB chain continued its trend over the past few months at 39K events, with activity dropping by 11.34% and 3.44% of contributors.

The polygon recorded 38.4K events, reduced by 13.59%, and the number of contributors moved by 5.58%. Arbitrum and optimism registered events of 32.6k and 29.8k respectively, with reduced activity and contributor participation. Arbitrum has contracted 13.97% at the event and 4.46% at contributors, with optimism being the highest percentage of top five activities, with 17.97%.

The Avalanche and Cosmos had 27.5k and 27k events, respectively. Avalanche activity fell 7.2% and contributors fell 10.83%. Cosmos had a stable number of contributors in that order, and despite a decline in activity rate of 11.75%, no changes were recorded in this metric.

Big differences in new ecology

Solana has a 22.2K developer activity event, which saw an event drop by 9.23% and a contributor increase by 1.62%. Solana is the only top 10 ecosystem with positive developer participation trends.

The largest reduction was registered by Harmony and Polkadot. Harmony’s activity fell by 19.46%, and the number of contributors also fell to 6.29%. Polkadot experienced the most significant drop in developer events by 20.66%, while contributor activity fell by 5.46%.

These numbers indicate a general decline in blockchain development activities using several ecosystems. These trends are also important for assessing ecosystem sustainability over the long term.
